The recent development within the club suggests that Tottenham Hotspur have been planning their approach for the upcoming transfer window.
Spurs have been strongly linked with several potential targets for a move in the summer.
Ange Postecoglou has recently discussed the Lilywhites’ plans for the transfer window, emphasising that the club needs to undertake significant work in the market.
According to Transfermarkt, Tottenham have invested €272.1 million in acquiring players since the arrival of the Australian manager. These signings include notable players such as James Maddison, Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven, Dejan Kulusevski, and others.
However, Postecoglou has now dismissed the possibility of Spurs ever being in the position to sign a player for £100 million.
He said (via Football London): “To a certain extent but I don’t think we are in a position to spend £100million on a player, if that is what you are suggesting.
“That is not the case and I don’t think it will ever be the case for the club.”
When pushed on why Tottenham will not spend £100million on one player and whether it was policy or financial, the Australian said:
“It is purely financial. If I had the luxury of £100million, I would rather get two £50million players. Cor that is great isn’t it? Wonderful. The world I have come from!”
Despite the North London outfit reinforcing the squad with 7 players in the summer, along with a couple more additions in Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin in January, Postecoglou believes that it will still take up to one more window to assemble his optimal squad.
He further stated (via Football London):
“No. We’ve got a lot of work to do still on the squad and I don’t think we’re anywhere near where we want to be. It probably will take a little bit more than three windows to get there, for sure.
“Just in terms of the robustness, adaptability and compatibility of the squad, I think there’s still a fair bit of change we need to do.
“I certainly don’t think we’re one or two players away from getting to where I want us to be, nowhere near it. Some of that will be natural evolution. Some of it hopefully means we continue to get the improvement we’ve had this year from some of our players. If that happens over the next 12 months, then yeah we’ll be in a great position.”
TBH Says:
Under Postecoglou’s guidance, we’ve seen remarkable improvement in a remarkably short period. There’s every reason to place full trust in him.
If Tottenham maintains this trajectory under Postecoglou’s leadership, they could emerge as a dominant force in European football within a few years.
Furthermore, with our recent successful transfers, there may not be a necessity to spend £100m on a player, specially if Ange gives his approval.
