Matt Allen, formerly the Head of Academy Physical Development at Tottenham Hotspur, has made a significant move in his career by joining Ipswich Town as their new Head of Athletic Performance.
With over a decade of experience working in the Premier League, Allen brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
Expressing his excitement about the opportunity, Allen stated:
“The chance to come in and help the club ahead of what we know will be a demanding Championship season is one I couldn’t turn down.”
He further revealed his previous connection with Ipswich’s assistant manager, Kieran McKenna, and praised his meticulous approach to work.
Allen’s enthusiasm to support McKenna and enhance the team was evident as he spoke about the appeal of the position.
Having spent a significant portion of his career at Tottenham, where he began as a sports science intern and eventually took on the role of head of academy physical development, Allen leaves behind a remarkable tenure of 13 and a half years.
He also served as the women’s head of performance from July 2021.
His departure comes at a time when Tottenham is undergoing a series of personnel changes, including the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the new manager following an extended search for Antonio Conte’s replacement.
Additionally, reports suggest that Spurs are also close to securing a new sporting director.
With Allen’s wealth of experience and expertise, Ipswich Town will hope to bolster their performance in the upcoming Championship season.
