Hugo Who? Gazzaniga’s First Half Heroics Ruin Liverpool’s Reputation [video inside]

Annnndddd breathe.

The first 47 seconds at Anfield this afternoon were perfectly pleasant. (Actually – there was a nervy moment or two before Harry Kane’s opener).

And it only got worse as Liverpool penned us back, testing Mauricio Pochettino’s 4-5-1 defensive shape and creating chances at will.

Were it not for a string of fine saves from Paulo Gazzaniga, it would have been another Bayern Munich-esque first-half turnaround for Spurs.

The Argentine made a total of five saves – the second most by any goalkeeper in a Premier League first half this season.

Gazzaniga, deputising for injured No.1 and captain Hugo Lloris, made a superb reflex save at point-blank range from Virgil van Dijk’s header, and was at full stretch to deny Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 25-yard piledriver.

Arguably his best work came in the form of this double save to thwart both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Watch the heroics for yourself here:

Lloris was constantly costing us big games prior to dislocating his elbow. Gazzaniga is keeping us in this one.

Although, there is still 45 minutes to go!
