Hugo Lloris Pondering MLS Career Finale? [opinion]

There would have been a time when the biggest clubs in Europe would have been queuing up to take Hugo Lloris from Tottenham.

But the Frenchman has plummeted from being arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the world to one of the least reliable in the Premier League; still capable of match-winning performances but no less likely to drop a costly clanger than his deputies Paulo Gazzaniga and Michel Vorm.

That decline seems to have hit Lloris hard as Hercules – a reliable ITK on Spurs Community – reckons he is looking to the MLS for his next move.

When will that time come? According to transfermarkt.com, the 33-year-old is under contract with us until the summer of 2022. Spurs have so many areas in need of strengthening that those in charge might deem Lloris a leak they can manage in the meantime while recruitment is focussed elsewhere.

They would be wrong to think that. Lloris’ years at the top are over, and the skipper’s apparent desire for a quiet retirement in America instead of few years challenging himself in Europe indicates that he knows that too.
