James Milner was the first man to take a pop at the Spurs’ goal [1] it was a pretty mechanical shot, but given the space available, one can’t blame him for letting it go.
Alexander-Arnold’s attempt [2] was a much superior effort, and Hugo did well to deny its path. Mane got the
Mane got the better of Sanchez, and so then it was then Keita [3] that drew another corner after a fine save.
Jota’s goal [4]was well taken, but amply aided and abetted by numerous ball-watching Tottenham players. The header was all too much for a stationary Loris.
Number [5] saw Alexander-Arnold have another crack, this too, the Spurs gaffer got the better of.
Robertson scored the Reds. second [6] but whilst the goal itself was spot on, in the build-up, Mo Salah clearly cheated, and then involved himself in some pretty weird acting routine in the Spurs net. No action was taken, and the goal stood. What a way to live a life, eh?
Correct.
I thought he should have caught the ball. Grab it with two hands.. His wimpy parrying is hopeless. Either parry it out of play for a corner, or fist/punch it.. He can’t catch from corners either so commanding his area is a problem. This is his only real weakness now after sorting his distribution out.
3 seconds…. So according to this new rule, one can (accidentally on purpose) handball it to a team mate, who counts to 3 and then bangs it into the goal. As long as you don’t score within 3 seconds then handballs are fine… Weird.
Winky played well by his standards.. I don’t think he will ever be in Contes long plans for first choice.. But if he keeps playing like that and keeps improving then he may well stay as a squad player/backup/2nd string.
Yeah you’re right and wow, I just watched it again.. I counted it and it was just four seconds from the handball to the goal… The rule is ridiculous though.. It was a handball and then Trent immediately crosses it for Robertson to head in. If the process was 1 second quicker then it would have been disallowed. What a silly illogical rule.
what’s that jamie…?
…
oh no, not the water pistol!
Whenever Hugo gets written off, he usually reminds us of what a quality keeper he is.
Lloris is still a very good keeper and I would have no objections to his rumoured 1 year contract extension. However Gollini is not good enough even as a backup.
Given that he was diving in a forward direction to prevent the ball dropping to a Liverpool player, reflecting it towards the corner flag is a bit of an ask.
I think lloris could have parried the ball closer to the corner flag as opposed to open play for their 2nd goal…agreed tho with the ball at his feet he makes me nervous.
I thought Winks grew into the game. Actually tried to move the ball forward in the second half and put a proper shift in. As did Alli, whilst looking short on confidence in the key areas. I loved it. We showed some heart and if Conte stays I think he will make us winners. The progress continues to be positive
Which is laughable! Still, Conte is changing things and I’m excited – back this guy.
Agreed. It was never a goal. We did get the benefit of the doubt on the Kane tackle but evening things up doesn’t make the refereeing performance any better.
They said the goal was legit as it was scored in a new phase of the game 3 seconds after the handball
How did we get to Son and Kane and the rest. The subject is still Winks performance. Did he cut the mustard or not?
Sometimes we just miss the point. My point again is no matter what the rules said. The hand ball should have been called by the ref instinctively. Salah miss the header completely and the ball fell on his hand and affected the position of the ball away from the defending team. If the ref blew the whistle VAR cannot review it. What you are telling is the ref process all that in one swoop standing a few feet away. What you just told me is the refs are basically robots. He determine 20 feet away Kane tackle was not dangerous and was so definitive between himself and no VAR to review was done how do you square that?. Maybe my short answer should be regardless of the team you root for the rule is crap and we basically have a man with a whistle playing second fiddle to the man with the monitors and a mouse.
Hugo was fine. He’s always been a great shot stopper and his distribution is vastly improved. I still get nervous with the ball at his feet and he can improve his overall command of the box, but all in all he has not been the cause at all of the trophy drought.
I’ll put up a link of the new rules 👇
‘Allison’ is the Scouse Brazilian keep… Emerson is our Brazilian right back.
Mane kicks Hugo just above the ribs – it’s a foul if Hugo had made anything of it.
I’ve just read the new rules. How on earth was the goal legal? “An accidental handball is only penalised by an attacker if it immediately leads to a goal or goal scoring opportunity”.. Which it was, they scored 3 seconds after!.. The goal should have been chalked off.
Both keepers were great to be fair.
The handball rules changed in the summer. Under the new rules the goal was legal. However they should have had a penalty and Kane should have been red-carded under the current laws of the game.
Really don’t see how we can complain about their second goal in the circumstances.
Eh?
We looked so dangerous due to having Son and Kane working together – the new Archibald and Crooks.
As for Lloris he did fine but didn’t have any difficult saves to make. Emerson’s save from Dele was world class.
Lloris was brilliant as always I’m not sure though I will be deceived by the likes of Dele, Winks etc all of a sudden they become world beaters. they know that January is in the corner they should be moved by any means if there is any hope left for this club and Conte to succeed to win anything.
Credit the guy and make the second point. Gosh, Winks did his job in the 4 slot as well as anyone could on the day. Games like this calls for 433 formation. Put a Winger over there to stem the advancing of the wingbacks. Moura is the one right now for that job, he need to look on from the bench.
Agreed. O was merely saying tje pundits when into twister mode for a straight decision. He left his feet it was dangerous end of the story. I just plotted it to show they say guys dismissed the handball as just tje rule instead of that Ref interpreted. VAR looked at neither which is a problem all by itself. You do know that very few players handle the ball deliberately especially in the box. Football is played with balance a certain posture which make the frame hands and legs natural to that balance. The rule remove that. Defender have zero lift because while they fear coming down on someone’s head or handling the ball. Players are stopping to put their hands behind them because the motion of running is waddling like ducks. That is what unnatural looks like 😆 🤣 😂
I’m also confused on the new handball rule. I think it’s changed yet again. They have brought the word ‘deliberate’ back in to the rule I think. How was Salahs allowed I will never know. The reffing was shocking.. Kane could have been sent off easily. His studs were up and he jumped so both feet were off the ground. Regardless of Robertsons actions it was dangerous.. Klopp was right to be angry, but he doesn’t half go on. He tries to influence decisions constantly kicking off. I was expecting Conte to tell him to wind his neck in.
What I do not understand about the rule is this. If the hand is tucked in fine that was always the case. If your arm is extend which Salah was and it affected the phase of the game, it is simply a handball. The distance travel is enough to make it a reviewable phase of the play. Secondly, and this will tie into the arguement some were making for Harry to be sent off. If Robertson legs was planted which it was not, the tackle he could/would have suffered catastrophic injury. Therefore Kane should have been dismissed. An not buying it,Robertson was bailing once Kane slide and that is the fact in tale. Now, had Salah headed the ball it would have gone straight to Llorris harmlessly. The fact there is that he did not head the ball, his hand redirected the ball which blatantly affected the play to his advantage. That should be reviewable, but look at the game, is was poorly officiated and VAR did not help. I always wanted Klopp to be caution for his bad behavior, he did not deserve that card IMO defending his player and the ref many screw it.
Glad you is feeling better innit Harold. Thought we played well overall and Winks didn’t make me miss Hojbjerg too much – something I thought I wouldn’t say in a long time
He didn’t have much to do really, Emerson was the much busier goalkeeper.
They have to draw the line with handballs somewhere, that Llorente goal in the CL for us during our run to the final was a grand example.
Doesn’t half stuck in your craw when it’s so blatant as with Salah’s yesterday. You can’t be controlling crosses with your arm (looking at you Sissy!)
