Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has heaped praise on his teammate Cristian Romero.
When asked to reveal which teammate has impressed him the most since joining the club, the 26-year-old attacking midfielder picked out the Argentine international as someone who has really made his mark with his aggression and leadership qualities.
He said on TNT Sports: “For someone who doesn’t speak the language brilliantly, he’s a leader in how he acts and how he represents himself”.
Romero is undoubtedly the best defender at the club right now and he has been quite impressive since joining the premier league side.
Tottenham looked quite vulnerable defensively last season and they ended up conceding 63 goals in the league. However, Romero’s performances were rarely disappointing and Spurs needed to bring in a quality partner for him this summer. It seems that summer signing Micky van de Ven has hit the ground running and the Dutchman has been hugely impressive so far.
If he can continue to complement the Argentine international the way he has done so far, Spurs could have a formidable defensive unit the season.
Meanwhile, Maddison explained that Romero plays a key role in helping Tottenham execute Ange Postecoglou’s free-flowing attacking football. Tottenham’s fearless approach demands aggression from the defenders who are ready to step up and sniff out danger whilst being on the front foot.
Romero will be looking to build on his performances so far and he will look to help Spurs secure Champions League qualification at the end of this season.
