‘he’s a defender’s nightmare’: Former player hails Tottenham-linked Bundesliga attacker

Alan Hutton has urged Tottenham Hotspur to sign Borussia Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi.

Adeyemi played an important role in Borussia Dortmund’s incredible run to the final of the Champions League. Despite his impressive performances, Dortmund have informed the player that they are ready to part ways with him as their new manager Nuri Sahin doesn’t count on him.

A report from HITC recently claimed that Tottenham are one of the clubs that have been offered the chance to sign Adeyemi ahead of next season. The young winger’s agent has held talks with several clubs with Spurs being one of them.

Meanwhile, Alan Hutton has urged his former club Tottenham to sign the German youth international as he feels the 22-year-old can help them take the next step. Hutton believes his pace is an x-factor and he could be a perfect fit in Ange Postecoglou’s system.

While speaking to Tottenham News, the 39-year-old said: “I can keep saying the words ‘he’s a defender’s nightmare’ but that’s what he is. He’d give a fullback a sleepless night.

“He’s very direct, pacey, can go both ways and really gets the fans excited so I’m not surprised this is what they’re looking at.

“The style of football that Tottenham play, that’s what it’s like. It’s all action and all gungho to really get at the opposition and score as many goals as you want so it doesn’t really surprise me.

“Again, it will come down to costs, fees and wages and things like that and if they can get a deal done.

“But look, Tottenham are a massive club and you can tell by the names that they’re going for that they’re really looking to take it to the next level so the next few weeks are going to be really interesting.”

Adeyemi has electric pace which makes him a nightmare for any full-back in the world and since he is only 22, he will only get better with time. While he is not known for his goal-scoring abilities having contributed towards just seven goals (5 goals, 2 assists) last season, there is a lot more to his game which could help Spurs in the final third. His ability to feature anywhere in attack could give Postecoglou multiple tactical options.

Tottenham already have quite a few players who prefer playing out wide on the flanks, as a result, they could look to offload a few of them before they consider making a move for Adeyemi. More importantly, the finances involved will have a huge say on whether they do make a move for the German forward.
