Spurs Starting XI Against Chelsea|Gollini starts [image]

By Ron Carne -

After a nightmare first-leg at Stamford Bridge a week ago (2-0), Tottenham Hotspur has it all to do in this Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg clash with London rivals Chelsea.

It’d be a spectacular turnaround if they were to book themselves into the show-piece event at Wembley, given that across the history of this competition, only Aston Villa in 1993/94 has reached the final after losing the first-leg by more than a single goal!

Spurs may have failed to score across the last two competitive home head-to-head clashes, but having netted 2+ goals in four straight competitive home matches overall, the hosts might be confident of producing an almighty turnaround.

Whilst all of this should give Thomas Tuchel’s men a huge psychological edge, it’s worth noting that Chelsea has only won one of their last five League Cup-away visits to Tottenham, therefore they shouldn’t be too cocksure in their approach for this semi-final second-leg.

Disco Benny was one of the French rebels that was interred too. Bentaleb was actually part of the initial Poch revolution having been given a chance by Sherwood. He did well too. Bentaleb went later when he fell out with Poch after he had recovered from an injury. Poch stopped picking him and then he was sold.

Apart from Romero it’s more ‘jam tomorrow’, which is what happens when you sign players under 22 with no Premiership experience, and then sell them just when they reach their peak. 23 years of this, nothing has changed, regardless of who”s supposedly making the picks. Why we win nothing, it’s boring.

Exactly. I’d be interested to know the identities of the attackers he left out in order to adopt this defensive set up.

Sess was no improvement and we have no better options playing any other formation. Conte is top class but it’s like a Ferrari chassis with a lawnmower engine to run it.

He has been appallingly managed. What business would ruthlessly flog their most valuable asset in this way. Levy is a disgrace on every level.

And also I’m starting to wonder about Conte starting Doherty on the left again and setting up so defensively when we needed attackers on the pitch. If this were Nuno or Jose doing this garbage there would be riots in the street right now.

At this point I feel our only hope is that the bankers at HSBC, BAML and GS are Spurs supporters and put such onerous refinancing terms on the 400B plus term loan coming due in a few months that forces ENIC to sell the team.

Conte looked like he had the right hump in the interview. Interesting answer to why NDombele wasn’t on the bench “I have to follow the club line” – could this mean Tanguy has one foot out the door?

There’s only one Ndombele thank goodness , I refer to Tangy but maybe he should be known as Japh.
Seriously there are far too many players not at the required level, including the new recruits, that is worrying.

Of course normal teams have 2 decent players for each position, so could we have an attacking RB (Traore) for the defensive small teams, and a defensive RB (Royal) against the big teams? At the moment we haven’t got a single decent player in some positions let alone 2.

I’d keep Gil around for some time and I suspect Sess will stay on as well, since we blew 25M on him and he’s almost always injured.

Tangy (I almost always confuse this with Tanguy) is a weird one. Seemed a decent CB/RB, strong and fast. Now he seems woefully out of his depth.

Lo Celso probably has to go now, I agree.

I only remember a relatively thorough clearout early on under Poch, when we got rid of Adebayor, Stambouli, Bentaleb, Capoue, and Kaboul. We probably need something like that or even more.

Apart from the players who are simply not good enough, everyone who views playing for Spurs as an afterthought needs to be shown the door as well.

Another punt in his early 20’s who hasn’t played in the Premiership before. This seems to be the criteria, I don’t care about ‘potential’ in our signings anymore. It never leads to anything, if they do become any good the bald c*nt just cashes in and buys more punts with (some of) the cash.

A never ending cycle of nothingness…

Pointless acquisition based on his buys/loans so far. I’m also concerned about bringing in a raft of players from the slower Serie A. We should buy British, for starters we should have gone for Watkins or Ings. They know English football.

So what’s the verdict on our new director of football? Terrible goalkeeper, and an equally terrible right wing back.

Sure Romero looks good and Gil might be good in three years but how has any of Paratici’s work improved our situation so far? One player decent enough to start out of five signings so far, and even he’s injury prone!… 🤔
