Here is Sherwood’s theory about why one Spurs player hasn’t been playing much

Tim Sherwood claims that the reason why Giovanni Le Celso cannot get into this Tottenham team at the moment is that Jose Mourinho doesn’t want to play in a way that he would be accommodated.

Tottenham is having one of their better starts to a season with Jose Mourinho’s team enjoying win after win.

It is hard to fault the tactics of the Portuguese manager at the moment as long as the results keep coming.

He has had to adapt his system in a way that his front two of Harry Kane and Son Heung Min have been able to produce the goals that they need while the players behind them have been protecting their defence well.

Sherwood believes that it is this new style of play that has prevented Le Celso from seeing a lot of playing time in this campaign, even though he was one of the most improved players at the club last season.

“Lo Celso, at the back end of last season, was the most improved midfielder Tottenham had,” Sherwood told Sky Sports as quoted by The Express.

“And I really enjoyed watching him play.

“He cannot get a kick of the football, at the moment because Jose doesn’t want to play that way.

“He’s relying on the front three to win him the game and the rest of the players behind have to be responsible and defensive.

“At the moment, it’s working.

“Jose Mourinho saying there in his interview, ‘we are playing the best football and it’s ‘free [flowing]’. No, it’s not the best football. But they still attack. They still have a threat.”
