No real surprises here but I commend you to take a peek at this article from Belgian Outlet HLN who recently grabbed an interview our man Toby Alderweireld. There’s plenty of chat about his future plans and not seeing enough of his family. but what stood out for me was the above thoughts on José Mourinho.
Wanting players to ‘go through fire’ seems like an appropriate phrase in respect of a coach that demands courage, honesty and loyalty from his players. Players that don’t understand and embrace this, clearly don’t deserve to wear anyone’s shirt. Little wonder that Danny Rose’s narcissistic episode in Mourinho’s office was the last time most of us can remember seeing the former England fullback on our television screens.
As far as Dele Alli is concerned, it looks as if there is a way back, providing the player is willing to fight for his place, opposed to simply whine about having lost it, in the first place. Unsurprisingly – all reasonable stuff, eh?
Jose has done it at every club i.e. KDB, Pogba, Dele, Iker Casillas, Salah to name a few. Winks next? only time will tell.
I don’t personally view Toby’s comments as particularly warm towards Jose and alongside Winks’ comments on interlul duty make for a slightly puzzling take on goings on within the squad.
I understand that Jose will have his own exacting standards around what he wants from players. I think this works at clubs where you strongly control transfer activity and a large budget because you can just replace them with better or comparable quality. Also present day players are a different animal.
Look we’re second and we have to trust the manager’s methods, but it’s easy to see why there’s been an element player unrest in his last two jobs before leaving. His man management style is obviously different to many other managers, particularly these days. Might be for the best, only time will tell
