‘He would fit in perfectly’ – 24-year-old Liverpool star urged to join Tottenham

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has been urged to join Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season.

Former Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit has urged to the 24-year-old goalkeeper to move to Tottenham as the long-term replacement for club legend Hugo Lloris.

“Caoimhin Kelleher should consider a move away, however Chelsea still have two keepers in [Edouard] Mendy and Kepa [Arrizabalaga],” said Petit (h/t Football London). “A club that he would fit in perfectly is Tottenham. Hugo Lloris is 36, he has had a few injuries and has retired from the national team, he is not the future anymore.

“[Fraser] Foster is also 34, so Tottenham may need a refresh in that department. Kelleher is 24 years old. In the cup fixtures last season, especially against Chelsea, he was really good. If he wants to cement his own legacy, he should leave and join Tottenham.”

The 36-year-old has regressed considerably over the past year and he is no longer the player he used to be.

The French World Cup winner has cost his side valuable points this season with his error-prone performances and he will need to be replaced at the end of the season. Spurs have to bring in a goalkeeper who is ready to replace Lloris as the club’s first-choice shot-stopper and Kelleher certainly has the potential to develop into a top-class Premier League goalkeeper.

The Irish goalkeeper has been a backup option to Alisson Becker at Anfield and he has proven his quality in the cup games.

Kelleher is undoubtedly a prodigious talent who has the ability to succeed at a top club. He needs regular game time at this stage of his career and it wouldn’t be surprising if he decided to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp will not be able to provide him with regular first-team action ahead of the Brazilian international and therefore it makes sense for both parties to go separate ways in the summer.

The 24-year-old is rated highly at Anfield and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham make a move to secure his services in the coming months.
