‘He was one I was really keen on’: Ange reveals who was Tottenham’s main target this summer

By Saikat -

Wilson Odobert was Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou’s priority target for this summer.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham managed to secure a fifth-place finish last season despite losing their record goal scorer Harry Kane. While they did cope well without the English international, the Australian manager was keen on reinforcing his attack this summer.

The North London club extended the loan spell of Timo Werner and then went on to sign Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert in the recently concluded transfer window. While they forked out a club record fee to sign the former Liverpool star, signing Odobert from Burnely was the priority for Postecoglou.

While speaking about the teenage winger, the former Celtic boss said to Football London: “Wilson was great last week. I was wrapped to get him. He was one I was really keen on all summer.”

”We had to be patient with him as the Dom Solanke deal went on a bit longer than we thought it would and we had to get that done first.

”He did great for us. It was his first game, as a 19-year-old, and he was exciting to watch. He will get more and more comfortable with us. I don’t mind players coming in early and us giving them exposure early as it gets it out of the way.”

Postecoglou has revealed that he was keen on signing the teenager all summer after having seen him do wonders for Burnley last season. The Australian manager is absolutely delighted to see the French youth international join the club and he feels Odobert has made an exceptional start to life at the North London club.

He was recently handed his debut for Spurs and the 19-year-old had an impressive outing. Odobert was exciting to watch and Postecoglou feels he will get better with time. With the Dominic Solanke deal dragging on for longer than expected, Tottenham had to be patient with their move for the teenager but they eventually managed to get it over the line.
