“He may be OK in three or four years” Pundit says Mourinho needs a more experienced player

By Bruce Grove -

Danny Mills says Joe Rodon isn’t the quality that Jose Mourinho wants at Spurs at the moment.

The defender joined the Lilywhites in the summer after they had failed to sign other top targets like Milan Skriniar.

He was playing for Championship side, Swansea previously and he is talented but needs time to become top quality.

While he hasn’t been Spurs’ worst defender of the season, he has also not made them a better team.

He is clearly talented but Spurs need players who can come in and contribute to their goals immediately.

Mills believes the defender is just a youngster with potential who has joined a Tottenham team that needs a more experienced player in that position.

He says Mourinho would choose to field an older player because Rodon needs time to reach the level he wants.

Asked for his assessment of Rodon’s performances for Spurs, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He’s a young player coming into a difficult scenario.

“I think Mourinho would like to throw in somebody with experience who is ready now and not have to nurse through a new, young player.

“He may be OK in three or four years but I think right now Mourinho needs an immediate impact.”

Rodon needs to show more than he has done so far and that may change some of the perspectives about him.

Definitely unfair on Rodon who has done much better than expected.

I heard Michael Dawson say when he was first playing for Spurs and lacked top level experience he would turn his head and see Ledley King and could relax knowing he’d keep him right.

Poor old Joe Rodon looks round and what does he see, Eric Dier or Davinson Sanchez. Yikes!!!!!!

Another gripe to have with Levy – not only failing to strengthen the existing squad, but also failing to manage succession properly. Walker, Dembele, Eriksen, Jan, Toby, and probably soon to be Kane, Son and Lloris.

Scary stuff.

He won’t need 3 or 4 years nonsense, all Rodon needs is an experienced CB alongside him, let him play regularly with a settled backline and a manager that believes in him and he will become even better, he is already an international who plays a major role for his country.

Levy never replaces top quality players properly.

Crazy game at Poch HQ….nil nil after 78 mins, finished 3-2 PSG after they went behind and we’re pegged back to 2-2 on 92 mins….I had over 1.5 goals so was pleasantly surprised…

Levys idea of squad progression is replacing perhaps the best CB pair in Europe Jan and Toby with Davidson and a kid….any wonder it never goes anywhere and the team is midtable bound?
