“He looks switched on and is doing his job really well.” Pundit reckons that Spurs star has earned his proposed new deal

Serge Aurier is arguably the most transformed player at Tottenham this season with the Ivorian now looking more assured than ever.

His unreliable nature prompted Tottenham to bring in Matt Doherty in the last transfer window and the Republic of Ireland man was expected to become the club’s first-choice right-back.

However, Aurier has refused to let that happened, and he has fought his way back into the starting XI.

After starting big games against the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, he has now become the right-back that Jose Mourinho wants.

He was expected to leave the club in the summer after the arrival of Doherty, but now there are talks of him earning a new contract at the club (Football Insider).

Noel Whelan is one of those football fans who have been impressed by his transformation and the pundit told Football Insider that Aurier is like a new signing now, and he has done well to take to the demands of Mourinho.

“When Docherty came in everyone thought that was it for Aurier,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He had always been an accident waiting to happen, too reckless and giving away free-kicks and penalties.

“But Jose Mourinho is getting the best out of him and we’re now seeing performances we never thought him capable of.

“He looks switched on and is doing his job really well.

“Just a few months ago, you would never have seen Aurier getting a new contract. From that point of view, it’s a shock re-signing.

“But it also makes sense if Mourinho can get the best out of him, and that’s what we’re seeing.”
