“He is very lucky” Pundit says Man City match-winner should have been sent off

Micah Richards reckons Aymeric Laporte should have been sent off for Manchester City in the first half after two cynical fouls on Lucas Moura.

City beat Tottenham in the Carabao Cup final this evening with the Frenchman scoring a late goal for them.

However, if referee Paul Tierney wasn’t so lenient, the defender should have seen red in the first half.

It was a game that Spurs had to win to end their trophy drought, which has lasted for over a decade.

They fired Jose Mourinho and made Ryan Mason their interim boss last week.

The Special One was a master in winning this competition and would probably have put out similar tactics today.

However, going a man down would have affected City and Richards, on punditry duty, admits that Laporte got away with one there.

He says although he got a yellow card for a second foul, the initial one also warranted a yellow card.

‘The first one is definitely a yellow card, and so is the other one,’ Richards explain to Sky Sports at half-time of the final as quoted by Mail Online

‘He should be sent off. The second one, he does get the yellow card and is fortunate to stay on the pitch.

‘He is very lucky, I’ll be totally honest with that. But sometimes in the game you get that bit of luck.’
