Premier League Pundit Paul Merson has backed Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to outscore the likes of Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez this summer.
He wrote in his Daily Star column, “Harry Kane is still my favourite for the Golden Boot and he is the benchmark for Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez. You win the Golden Boot by scoring against the bottom-half teams, not by scoring 15 goals against the top-four sides. You get your hat-tricks against the struggling teams in January and Kane will be playing every game.”
Liverpool shelled out a fee of around £64 million on the Uruguayan international, but the 22-year-old will need time to adapt to English football and it would hardly be a surprise if Kane manages to outscore the young striker this season.
The 28-year-old is a world-class player who is at the peak of his powers right now. He is used to scoring consistently in the Premier League and the arrival of players like Richarlison and Ivan Perisic could make life easier for the England international in the upcoming season.
Kane has three golden boots to his name and he will be looking to add to that tally.
Merson also added that both Haaland and Nunez will be up against defensive-minded teams, who are likely to sit back against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
Tottenham will be hoping to challenge for the Premier League title in the upcoming season and Antonio Conte will need his star striker firing on all cylinders in order to bridge the gap with the likes of City and Liverpool. Kane managing to outscore the likes of Haaland and Nunez would be ideal for the London club.
Merson – common sense ? Nah , must be an impostor !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
