“He has got a brilliant pedigree” Spurs England players could help them sign “unreal” national teammate

Former Sheffield United goalkeeper, Paddy Kenny believes the Tottenham players in the England national team can convince Sam Johnstone to move to their club for free in the summer.

He has been linked with a move to Tottenham as a replacement for Hugo Lloris who has just a few more years of top-level football to play.

Johnstone impressed for West Brom in the Premier League last season and although they were relegated, he is still highly regarded in England.

He will be out of a contract at the end of this season and Spurs are one of the clubs tipped to sign him on a free transfer.

Sometimes, you need someone to talk you into making a good transfer decision and the likes of Harry Kane could look to convince Johnstone to ignore his other suitors and move to Spurs instead.

Kenny reckons the goalkeeper is unreal and would thrive as a replacement for Lloris at Tottenham.

He would not be surprised if the Tottenham players in the England squad speak to him and convince him to join them in London.

“I reckon he would be a perfect replacement for Lloris,” he told Football Insider.

“Sam has been unreal at West Brom. I thought he was fantastic last season for a team that got relegated.

“He can continue his form now. He is involved with the England setup as well. The Spurs players might have words with him there and try and get it done next week.

“He is from the Man United academy so he has got a brilliant pedigree. So he would be a top signing and a big loss for West Brom.

“He’s a bit older than some of the other options and he has more experience. So I think he would be a bargain.”
