Tottenham winger Bryan Gil has been linked with a move away from the club this month.
Spanish giants Sevilla are interested in signing the player and their manager Jorge Sampaoli has confirmed that he has been a long-term admirer of the 21-year-old.
Gil has started just twice in the Premier League this season and a player of his quality needs to play more often. The 21 year old cannot afford to sit on the Tottenham bench for the remainder of the season.
A move away from the Premier League club would be ideal for the player’s development and it will be interesting to see if Sevilla can agree on a deal with Tottenham now.
Sampaoli has confirmed that he wanted to sign the 21-year-old when he was the manager of French club Marseille as well.
Sampaoli said, as quoted by Estadio Deportivo: “Yes, he fits the profile I want because I already wanted him for Marseille. When I was there I called him personally.
“It would be very interesting for our wings, but I’m not participating in the possibility of him getting here.”
Gil is likely to be tempted to return to Spain this month and the opportunity to play for Sevilla will be an attractive option for him. Tottenham signed the winger from Sevilla back in 2021 and returning to his boyhood club could help him regain his form and confidence once again.
Meanwhile, Sevilla are fighting for survival in the Spanish league, and bringing in a quality attacker in January will certainly enhance their chances of finishing the season strongly and beating relegation.
Meanwhile, Gil has the potential to develop into a top-class player in the long run and it will be interesting to see whether Tottenham are prepared to let him leave on loan or on a permanent basis.
