“He believes they need a centre-back” Journalist discusses Mourinho’s transfer needs

Tottenham supported Jose Mourinho in the last transfer window with some impressive signings.

The Special One has been tasked with leading them to win a trophy and the club did what they could to help his cause despite the coronavirus pandemic.

His team has been one of the best in England this season, but there have been matches where they have struggled defensively.

While this Tottenham team is impressive up to a point, it isn’t a finished work yet with some positions yet to be filled by high-quality players.

Duncan Castles was speaking on the club’s transfer business, and he said that Jose Mourinho is targeting a new centre back.

The Special One has reportedly communicated his need to the club, asking them to sign a new centre-back that is faster and can help his team build from the back.

He isn’t satisfied with the contributions of the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld, and Joe Rodon, so he needs a new partner for Eric Dier.

“We’ve been talking for some time about the recommendation that Mourinho made to the club,” Castles said on the Transfer Window podcast.

“He’s talked himself about presenting the report to the club as to where he believes the team needs to be strengthened.

“He believes they need a centre-back, quicker centre-back, ideally left-footed, someone who can lead the defence, which would allow him to play with a higher line against certain opponents.

“He has lost faith in Davinson Sanchez at a point during this season.

“He believes that they need that top-quality centre-back to come in and take them to a different level.

“Also a box-to-box midfielder who can build the play alongside Hojbjerg in midfield and combine with Ndombele.”
