Ashiah Haughton-Sinclair, Tottenham’s 15-year-old academy forward, trained with Roberto De Zerbi’s first team on Tuesday afternoon. The session is a notable step for the teenager, but it does not by itself establish a senior squad place or an imminent debut.
Haughton-Sinclair has attracted attention through his youth record. He became Tottenham’s youngest player to appear for the Under-18s last season and recorded a combined 90 goals and assists. Those achievements help explain why the forward has been given an opportunity to train alongside the senior group.
His progress has also included an England Under-16 call-up, his first at that level, around a month before the training session. He subsequently scored against Italy and has registered 10 goals and six assists for Tottenham’s youth teams this term. The figures underline a productive start to the campaign, while senior football remains a separate challenge.
What the call-up actually tells us
According to Sam Tabuteau’s report for the Standard, Haughton-Sinclair is regarded as one of the brightest talents in Tottenham’s academy and is now on De Zerbi’s radar after a rapid rise over the past year. The report also states that the player confirmed his first-team training involvement in a since-deleted Instagram story.
Tottenham are not in European competition this season, giving De Zerbi more time on the training pitch to assess academy players. In that context, Haughton-Sinclair’s inclusion offers the coaching staff a closer look at a young forward who has made a strong impression at youth level.
A senior debut may still be some way off, as the Standard report notes. For now, the training call-up is best viewed as recognition of Haughton-Sinclair’s development and an opportunity to experience the demands of the first-team environment. His youth performances have made his name increasingly familiar at Hotspur Way, but the next stages of his progress will take time.
