Harry Kane And Daniel Levy Are Surely On A Collision Course In The Coming Weeks

In yesterday’s press conference, the new Spurs gaffer was emphatic that Harry Kane remained a Tottenham player, and it would remain that way; “I’m looking forward to him joining the group and start working together. I have no doubts in my mind (about his future). I have no doubts.”

The doubts over this robust stance will remain, least of all when contrasted with Harry Kane’s interview with Gary Neville before the Euros, which blew up the situation in the first instance. If Kane was simply testing the water, then he has rather foolishly made a time-waster of himself. Unless something seismic happens in the transfer markets, then it looks to be the case that the 27-year-old (who is 28 in a matter of days) will be joining effectively the same squad of players that failed, Pochettino, failed Mourinho, and ultimately staggered into 7th place last season.

Speaking of that finish, it was one that would leave one of the best strikers in the world involved in Europe’s third-tier competition, the Europa Conference League. Surely this is merely another alarm bell to Harry that he’s at the wrong club?

It strikes me that Tottenham is on a collision course with their greatest asset; that it is inevitable. Or is Kane going to mothball his ambition in order to give a coach that was, what, the 7th or 8th choice a chance?
