“Greatest LB in the PL” Reguilon hailed after Southampton win

By Bruce Grove -

Sergio Reguilon was one of Spurs’ best players in their 2-1 comeback win over Southampton.

The Spaniard joined the club in the summer from Real Madrid after helping Sevilla to win the Europa League last season.

He has been one of the club’s best players, even in the ill-fated reign of Jose Mourinho.

He was selected to start Ryan Mason’s first game as the club’s interim manager and he gave a good account of himself.

After the game, he celebrated the win on his Twitter account and some Spurs fans praised him under the post.

He tweeted: “Great victory. Now focus on the final”

The club’s fans showed how much they appreciate him with some begging him to help them win the Carabao Cup against City at the weekend.

One fan even claimed that the Spaniard is the best left-back in the Premier League.

Another said he had missed seeing him in such good form for the club. Here are some of those reactions:

Scored a good one for England in the World Cup!

Nothing wrong with Dunk and Andersen either.
In fact a combination of Spurs attack and Brightons rugged well disciplined defence we could be dreaming!

Nothing wrong with Wilder who worked himself up from the bottom managing Alfreton Town to taking Sheff Utd into the PL says something about his effective managerial style will quickly sort out the Spurs slackers!

IMO he should not be taking them full stop!!
If selected the likes of Bale, Lo Celso and Lamela are IMO the obvious candidates!!

If its direct then he is not bad.. If its indirect then he needs to be in the box getting on the end of them. We have better for sure.

Reggy is very good going forward. Alot to learn defensive wise…. Best left back has to be Andy Robertson.. There are far too many numpties on twitter.

Ha ha Dunk, Andersen and Wilder at the helm you’ll have us primed nicely for the Championship.

Give the captains armband to the Dane – full stop.

Really? We could have been two or three down in the first half courtesy of his defensive lapses…. can’t imagine what the report would have been had Aurier made the same errors…..

Instead of which we are looking at high profile managers managing a very average one man band team devoid of the likes of a Neymarr, Mbappe et a!! It’s not that Spurs just need 2 players to complete the jigsaw but that a complete overhaul of the team is required. Looking at the side this eve – barring LLoris, agingToby, the Dane, Son and perhaps Moura just clear the lot out!!

True but their is something I admire about Dyche and Wilder.

By scoring early and pressurising them into enforced errors (easier said than done) will clearly disrupt their rythem, otherwise once Citeh score first settling into their usual passing groove going for the jugular barring miracles it’s likely going to be a painful watch!!
When Man Utd beat Citeh on their patch their game plan worked to perfection. Score early in first half – defend well – riding luck – scoring early in the second half and see the game out!

The Villa bloke has done well with limited funds, which is all anyone will get from Desperate Dan. Poisoned chalice under ENIC as has been proven.

Whilst my preference is Scott Parker we could do worse than selecting the likes of lesser mortals namely Chris Wilder or Sean Dyche respectively both of whom deserve to manage a big club!!

“Average” still means they dominate possession and have a host of quality personnel to select for the Final!!

Wild optimism here but despite their winning today, we are playing City in -for them at least- relatively average form. COYS.

Apart from keeping Foden quiet, given Citehs defensive chink in their armoury exposed by Villas early opener our tactic against Man City is simply the direct approach of hitting the ball over the top hoping for our strikers to latch onto the ball and test the keeper.

He’d better get ready to lose that accolade and his place.
Sources close to the club have told me on Bebo that Danny is starting light sit-ups, and is expected to be on star-jumps by early May.

Rodon can’t play in the Carabao Cup David he played for Swansea, so Mason obviously went with the players he’ll use on Sunday.

Not seen enough of hum play to comment on Max Aarons other than none of the big clubs have yet snapped him out.
Without tempting fate at least Aurier has cut out his party trick of making reckless challenges in the penalty area!!

If only we had a right back to match, someone like Max Aarons.

Late to the show please lets not go over the top about Regy when after some indifferent performances of late he is simply the best of a bad bunch. Good but not great.

Regarding some talking points about our victory
(i) Why was Rodon omitted from the line up?

(ii) After a shocking first half I would have made a triple sub at HT
bringing on Alli, Vinni and Winks

(iii) Having lost his destructive pace Bale merely does it in flashes

(iv) Moura produced one of his more ineffective performances

(v) Both Lo Celso and Ndombele are simply not up to the grade and would cash in n them both in the summer.
