“Give him six months then you can judge him properly” Spurs fans urged to be patient with Fonseca

Tottenham fans have been urged to give Paulo Fonseca time before they judge him if he becomes their next manager.

The ex-Roma boss is reportedly set to become the next Tottenham manager after a long search for a replacement for Jose Mourinho.

His arrival hasn’t been announced yet, but it seems almost certain that he will be their next manager after they appointed Fabio Paratici as their director of football.

Spurs fans have suffered from a lack of success for a very long time and they have seen top managers like Jose Mourinho struggle to help them win trophies.

The fans are likely to judge their next boss very quickly, but former Leeds United striker, Noel Whelan says Spurs fans have to be patient with Fonseca when he comes.

He says Tottenham are a poor side now, and the manager needs time for a massive rebuild.

However, six months should be enough time for the fans to judge if he is taking them forward.

When asked if Paratici pushing Fonseca’s appointment is a good sign for Spurs fans, Whelan told Football Insider: “Only time will tell.

“He needs six months. Give him six months then you can judge him properly. The club is a complete unknown at the moment.

“Is Harry Kane going to be there? There’s a lot of rebuilding needed. Can they win the league? No.

“Can they win a domestic cup? Probably not. Daniel Levy is looking at a three-year progression.

“He wants this to be the start of a period of progression. He tried that with Mourinho and he didn’t do it.

“It’s a big job at the moment and Fonseca needs to win over the fans very quickly.

“He’s not an exciting appointment and he’s under pressure already. I’m just glad the manager thing is nearly over, it needs to stop now.”
