Gianluca Di Marzio gives an update on talks between Tottenham & Atalanta for Cristian Romero

The negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur and Atalanta BC remain at a standstill for defender Cristian Romero since both clubs are far apart in agreeing on a transfer sum.

Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that following a meeting between the two clubs, both parties left the discussion table not feeling as though the talks have advanced.

Furthermore, the report states that talks for Romero appear to be on a lifeline. Still, there will be further contacts between the two sides to understand the margins to mend and, if necessary, resume the discussion for the Argentine defender in the coming days.

Di Marzo echoes various reports that Romero is doing his part to push the transfer over the finish line. The 23-year-old wants the clubs to find a solution as he wants to join Tottenham.

The Italian journalist adds that the two parties seemed close to an agreement to close the deal. However, Atalanta wants to stall while waiting to find a replacement. Meanwhile, Tottenham tried to accelerate by offering more than €50-million to have the player available well before the start of the Premier League.
