Gary Neville reveals a key weakness for Tottenham after Leicester draw

By Saikat -

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville feels Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham lack depth this season.

Postecoglou had an exceptional start to life at Tottenham last season. His team were in the mix for the league title. But, lack of enough quality and depth saw them slowly fade away from the title race and in the end, they could only manage a fifth-place finish missing out on Champions League football.

The North London club have added a lot of quality to their squad in the summer. They extended Timo Werner’s loan spell, forked out a club-record fee to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth, and added young stars Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and Wilson Odobert to their first team.

They have done some great business in the ongoing transfer window but Gary Neville still doesn’t feel that they have enough depth in their squad to challenge the best teams in the country.

While speaking about the 1-1 draw against newly promoted Leicester City, the former Manchester United full-back said via BBC: “When the subs came on tonight, I think that could be a problem for Tottenham in terms of strength in depth. I think that they look quite vulnerable.”

Neville feels Spurs do not have enough options on the bench to turn things around, as compared to the other top four hopefuls. Since they also have Europa League football to deal with this season, they could find it difficult to compete on all fronts.

Tottenham will have more firepower in attack with Solanke coming in and their defence also looks quite solid. However, they need more impactful players on the bench. As things stand, a top-four finish won’t be easy for them as the other clubs seem to have better squads at their disposal.
