Tottenham Hotspur has been linked to several forwards to provide some scoring depth to their squad this upcoming season. With the UEFA Champions League and ambitions to win silverware in 2022-23, they can’t lean heavily on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
However, one player they might have to cross off their list is Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Arsenal has reached a deal with Manchester City for the signing of Jesus for £45 million.
Ornstein states that the 25-year-old was Arsenal’s first-choice striker target during this summer transfer window, where he has also attracted interest from Chelsea and Tottenham.
Signing with The Gunners means Jesus will forgo playing in the UEFA Champions League this upcoming season. It seems as though the Brazil international might be prioritizing consistent playing time to ensure that he has a spot on the national team into the FIFA World Cup later this year.
Furthermore, the forward has a relationship with manager Mikel Arteta who worked with the forward while he was assistant to Pep Guardiola. Jesus arrived at the Etihad Stadium in 2017, where he has 236 fixtures for Manchester City, scoring 95 goals and recording 46 assists.
