Full Poch Post Match Presser [video]

By The Boy -

Gone is all that ‘I am winner’ cobblers.

Now that horrid word ‘competitive’ is raising its greasy head again.

There’s a great line in ‘As Good As It Gets’ where Melvin Udall says.’ I’m drowning here, and you’re describing the water…’

That’s this presser in one line.

‘Until they scored the third goal it was even’, he says.

I think Mauricio was actually suffering from some strain of PTSD.

What actually happened is not just that Arsenal wanted more, but their coach had set them up so they could win it.

Son’s dive for the penalty makes this game feel like a 1-4 loss.

That’s how it works. History only remember winners favourably.

Everyone else lost.

It’s a big ask. Right now I can see this season’s highlight being an ultimately meaningless win at the nou camp, against a side already through as group winners. Something to just about sustain belief that the team is on track for trophies.

For me, we never went into this season expecting to win the league (you can tell by our transfer policy, not just lack of, but also the targets). So to stop this season being a shambles we need 4th, a trophy, CL knockout stages and some real work in the transfers for next season (especially keeping the players we want to keep). If we don’t win something soon, our team will dispand (I know that is a media line, but as players hit 27+ and feel they are good enough, its stops being about money ala Walker, Sheringham, Berbatov, Carrick…)

That fact has been put to me stridently since 4oclock yesterday.

We re imposters, what makes you think we are not? We have not won anything. Arsenal are having one of their worst decades in their history and still won more than us.

Yes, Jose’s words and desperation will have excited somebody.

Plus Manchester United’s need has never been greater – and Jose would love to shop at Tottenham, he can’t shut up about that.

I did not get it and still don’t. And the collapse has given gooners more encouragement and ammunition in their delusion that spurs are imposters.

I think you’re right. If they were determined to keep Toby he would not have been publicly humiliated like he was yesterday.

Can’t keep ball, can’t bring others into play simple as that, the goons passed our midfield as though it wasn’t there, why we lost.

Toby is a rare thing – pleasing on the eye as he is on the stats.

Point in case Sissoko can be defended to death by using ‘transition ratios’ etc but he’s a flipping donkey.

Just read these stats.Dele completed 6passes in the second half yesterday, one in their half, and backwards after kicking off the second half and after each of their goals.Massive influence.

Poch’s decision to name Toby on the bench and keep him there in the midst of unfolding chaos sucked on multiple levels.

Not just because Toby is stable and unflappable in all situations/ atmospheres but because Jan Foyth is an inexperienced child prone to major errors and Verts was just back playing after a long time out…. Also, because when poch decided to go to a back 3 in the 2nd half he preferred to move lego back alongside the child and Verts, even though that left the midfield wide open for Arse to rampage through.

But as nauseating as events on the pitch were, the longer-term repercussion is graver still. How does benching Toby for the NLD aid in persuading him to stay at Spurs?

With the number of games he’s started I thought Poch was over his blanking of Toby, but as yesterday showed it would appear United’s desperation has alerted Levy to the possibility of a nice little earner without having to activate the year’s option.40-50M would do nicely to ease the enormous debt, but don’t expect any of it to go back into the team.

Toby brings Ali into a game so much with his long raking diagonal passes. When Toby is missing Ali very often goes missing. Another reason why not playing Toby yesterday was a massive brain dump. I am sorry but I do not believe Pooch is a winner and his decisions support that in those matches were we are put to the test. He has no answers and his post match pressers are full of sound bites like ” I was proud of the teams effort” ” we were competitive thatand that is the most important thing” …… blah blah blah

Yesterday i was looking across our midfield and we had no one able enough to hold and control that ball, mousa’s crocked winky’s a kid sisso is not suited for that role dier forget about it as with the rest, could this be the reason poch didn’t bother changing the course of the match and outcome, you have complaints please post it to levy, i’m sure he has the answers.coys

I’d like to paraphrase something a poster sent earlier and it’s so true.Apologies for not naming the creditee.
Poch has the in game management of a lose but the ego of a winner(who has won zip).
Lovely.

Call me a cynic but I can see Levy looking to sell Toby in January and that this is just part of the expectation management process to take him out of the limelight and to hope that Foyth can somehow play well enough to justify selling him. The reality is that Foyth looks a good prospect but is nowhere good enough to play as a first eleven selection at the moment. He is prone to making costly errors as we have seen with two penalties against Wolves a penalty that should have been given against Chelsea and a brain fart f**kup that gave Arse the lead yesterday and the momentum to go on and win the match. Pooch has no excuse for not playing Toby in this crucial derby match with Verts still not match fit and having played midweek. Either side we have two distinctly average wingbacks both capable of making costly errors and who often give way possession or lose their man. Then add Dier to the mix who to be honest would have struggled to get into our Sunday league side. Sissoko seemed to lose some of his recent shine as a result. When ARSE equalised after making the half time changes Pooch should have reacted immediately but he just has no capacity for in game tactics. He was schooled by Emri good and proper who looks a good replacement for the gooners and seems motivated and appeared to understand the significance of this tie at all levels. This match was about reputation, about giving the fans bragging rights in North London, about consolidating the result against Chelsea and Inter. The time to play Foyth would have been against Southampton in place of Verts surely? After the match Pooch said this was just a three point match no different to the one against Southampton coming up. He has the mentality of a loser but the ego of a winner yet has won nothing. A perfect fit and patsy for Levy and ENIC.
