Fabrizio Romano discussed Tottenham’s search for a new center-back on the latest House of Champions podcast.
Spurs are already looking for a new center-back in January, according to Romano, but the Italian also believes Spurs will look for a midfielder.
Bastoni is one centre-back that has been linked with Spurs for some time now, and he’s said to be a personal favourite of Antonio Conte who knows him from his time at Inter Milan.
The defender rose to prominence under the Italian manager at San Siro, and the defender’s former manager is eager to reunite with him.
But according to Fabrizio Romano, Bastoni will not be leaving Inter in January following their progression in the Champions League knockout stages. He said:
“In terms of centre-backs. I see links to Bastoni, but from what I’m told Bastoni is not leaving Inter in January also because they are in the next stage of the Champions League and so I don’t see them selling Bastoni in January, but I see Tottenham going for a centre-back and maybe a midfielder,”
The Italian journalist has dismissed Bastoni joining Spurs in January but at the same time has hinted that Spurs are in for another midfielder in the upcoming transfer window mentioning Ruslan Malinovskyi as a possible target
Another potential midfielder interested in a move is James Maddison, who was strongly linked with Spurs in the summer but nothing came of it. However, given Leicester’s poor start to the league, it is not surprising that the Englishman who has been their best player will look to jump ship and make a move.
