Frank Lampard highlights the main reason why Tottenham lost against Newcastle

By Saikat -

Tottenham went into the game against Newcastle United high on confidence after an impressive 4-0 win against Everton last time out.

The North London club dominated the ball, they created a lot of chances but couldn’t make the most of it. While defensive errors can be criticised, in reality, it was another poor outing from the Spurs forwards who despite all their efforts could find the back of the net.

While analysing Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Magpies, Frank Lampard highlighted their poor finish as the main reason why they returned empty-handed from the game.

The former Chelsea midfielder feels it wasn’t Newcastle’s impressive defensive display that made life difficult for the North London club rather it was the poor performance of their forwards which resulted in a defeat on Sunday.

Lampard said on BBC: “If you are talking about risk and reward. And style of play, then Tottenham do stay true to themselves. We know how they want to play. One of the effective things they do is get lots of players forward in and around the box, with their fullbacks and Porro joining in all the time. We saw it was an afternoon of a lot of opportunities and they spurned, for whatever reason. Whether it be the execution, the finish or the decision-making.”

Tottenham will be looking to return to the UEFA Champions League by the end of the season, and they will look to do well in the domestic competitions as well. They will need to improve their finishing in front of goal if they want to finish the season strongly.

The London club have brought in a quality striker like Dominic Solanke to improve their goalscoring. it will be interesting to see if the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker can transform them in the final third with his clinical presence.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou will be thoroughly disappointed with his players’ performances yesterday, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can produce a statement performance and bounce back strongly in their next game.
