Former Tottenham manager says Mourinho has brainwashed his players

Tim Sherwood believes that Jose Mourinho has brainwashed his Tottenham players into believing that they can win trophies.

The Special One was made the manager of Tottenham late last year after the Lilywhites made a poor start to last season.

They had been tipped to challenge for the title after reaching the Champions League final in 2019.

For years, Spurs have been struggling to win trophies despite coming close on numerous occasions and it might be a problem with their mindset.

But they have started this campaign in fantastic form and they are currently the team topping the Premier League table.

This season looks likely to be the one that they end their trophy drought and Sherwood believes that Mourinho has got his team thinking that they can win any trophy.

He claims that Spurs made good signings in the last transfer window and that Mourinho will have gotten his players thinking that they can win anything if they put in the work.

‘He’s found a way with the group of players he has,’ he told Talksport.

‘He’s bought very well, [Sergio] Reguilon has been a good signing at left back, but [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg for me has been the best signing. He fits into the style and just protects the two centre halves.

‘Jose has brainwashed his players to believe they have to work to achieve something – they need to win trophies, this group of players.

‘When you play as solid as they do, he’s almost brainwashed them into believing.

‘And why wouldn’t you believe in him? He’s won 20 major trophies in his career and you’re winning football matches, so then you start believing that this guy is the real deal, he knows what he’s talking about, and why can’t we win the league?

‘When we’ve got players like Son and Kane, who are world-class and could probably play in any team in the world, you’ve always got a chance.’
