Former Tottenham manager names the one player that could turn Spurs into title challengers

Harry Redknapp reckons that the signing of Gareth Bale is the move that Tottenham needs to turn themselves from top four contenders to title challengers.

Bale left Spurs for Real Madrid in 2013, his transfer fee at the time was the most expensive in the world for any player.

He has helped Real Madrid achieve much of their recent success, however, the appointment of Zinedine Zidane has changed the game for the former Southampton man.

The Frenchman has never been a fan of the Welshman and he has made it clear to Bale since last summer that he can leave.

A return to the Premier League has been touted for him and Spurs is one of the teams who have been linked with a move for him.

Redknapp, who managed Bale at Tottenham, claims it will be a transforming move if the Lilywhites can pull it off.

The former Spurs boss told The Sun: “Of the possible destinations, if Bale went back to Tottenham to team up with an already lively frontline you could see Spurs do some serious damage. Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dele Alli and Bale.

“If it were my call, I’d throw all four of them on together and step back to watch lift-off. Bale could change Tottenham from European contenders to Premier League title challengers.

“He would give everyone a lift. And when I think of Dele playing the supporting role behind those three it makes my skin tingle. Dele plateaued over the last few seasons — but has shown some signs of starting to get back to his best.

“It was always likely to happen to him because he was so young when he burst on to the scene.

“But Spurs need reinvigorating — and Bale would do just that.”
