Former Tottenham man suggests Spurs may have to terminate player’s contract in order to get rid of him

Tottenham Hotspur are actively looking to offload their centre-forward Richarlison this summer.

Spurs want to bring in a new striker during this transfer window to replace Richarlison and fill the void left by Harry Kane.

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King has strongly advised the club to part ways with the Brazilian forward.

Richarlison, who joined Spurs from Everton for £60 million in July 2022, has struggled to meet expectations, scoring only 15 goals and providing 8 assists in 66 appearances for the club.

His inconsistent performance, plagued by injuries, has led to increasing calls for his departure.

Despite scoring 11 goals in 28 league appearances last season, this was a marked improvement from the previous season where he managed just one goal in 27 games. However, these numbers still fall short of what is expected from such a high-profile signing.

Bryan King highlighted the difficulty the Lilywhites face in offloading Richarlison due to his substantial wages and transfer fees.

Finding a club willing to absorb these costs or reaching a settlement to release him poses a challenge. Nonetheless, King insists that Tottenham must take this step to rejuvenate their attacking lineup.

The funds generated from selling Richarlison would enable Spurs to invest in a new striker capable of delivering consistent performances.

Speaking to Tottenham News, King said:

“When you’ve been bought for an enormous amount of money, that also means you’re on enormous wages.

“Therefore, the only way that Spurs will be able to get rid of Richarlison is by finding a club willing to take on his wages or releasing him.

“The settlement fee to release him from his contract would be very large. However, the club do need to get rid of him.

“They bought him for over £50million, and it hasn’t worked out. They need a new number nine.”

Securing a new striker is Spurs’ top priority, with several potential targets identified across England and Europe. The club is eager to bolster their forward options to ensure a more formidable attacking presence in the upcoming season.

Richarlison’s contract with the Lilywhites extends until June 2027, but the club remains open to offers for the number nine.
