Mourinho should not be judged on last season claims former Tottenham man

Former Tottenham striker Jurgen Klinsmann has urged Tottenham fans to be patient with Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese boss attempts to end the club’s long wait for a trophy.

The Lilywhites reached the final of last season’s Champions League but they failed to build on that in the current extended season and that cost Mauricio Pochettino his job.

Mourinho was brought in to steady the ship and the Portuguese manager managed to help them finish the campaign in a Europa League spot.

The fans will now expect them to build on that and end the next campaign by winning a trophy and finishing inside the top four.

Considering his reputation, Mourinho is under pressure to deliver the goods as quickly as possible, but Klinsmann has urged the club to be patient with the former Manchester United boss.

He claimed that every manager will want to get things done their way when they join a new team, so it takes time before they can start making things happen.

He told talkSPORT: “Jose is such an experienced coach, he does it his way, which every coach should do.

“Every manager should do it his way. So it takes maybe a little bit more time.

“You cannot really judge the season that ended now because of COVID-19. It’s been a drama, it’s been a nightmare for everyone around the world.

“So at the end of the day, he still managed to get them into the Europa League and get into Europe. Now, we just need to trust him and give him time.”
