Former Tottenham man ‘relieved’ 49-year-old won’t manage the club

Tottenham Hotspur sacked Antonio Conte on Sunday night and they have been linked with a number of managers in recent weeks.

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel was heavily linked with a move to the north London club before he decided to join the German outfit as a replacement for Julian Nagelsmann.

Tuchel has proven his quality in the Premier League with Chelsea and he helped the Blues win the UEFA Champions League during his time at the club.

Apparently, the German manager was open to a move to Tottenham but Tim Sherwood is relieved that the 49-year-old has joined the Bundesliga club instead.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Tottenham manager revealed that he is relieved and it would have been difficult to stomach another ex-Chelsea manager joining the club.

“I am just relieved that Tuchel’s settled somewhere and he has gone to Bayern Munich,” he told talkSPORT, via HITC.

“They couldn’t stomach another ex-Chelsea manager going into Tottenham.”

Spurs have been linked with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Julian Nagelsmann as well.

It will be interesting to see who they bring in to replace Antonio Conte in the long term.

Pochettino has been linked with the return to the north London club and the 51-year-old could be the ideal acquisition for them. He knows the club well and he has worked with a number of players on the current side. He could help lift the spirits around the club.

Pochettino shared a strong bond with the players and the fans during his time at Tottenham and he could get them firing once again.
