Former Tottenham defender discusses why he opted to remain at Celtic

Tottenham Hotspur made their first sale of the summer transfer window when they parted ways with defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, who spent the 2021-22 season loan with Celtic.

Both Celtic and Spurs agreed on a deal that would keep the 24-year-old in Glasgow permanently, with Football Insider reporting that the fee that Celtic paid to hold onto the American defender could reach up to £10-million. £6-million will be upfront, with the other £4-million being add-ons.

Carter-Vickers spoke for the first time since the deal went through with Celtic club media about the decision to remain with the Scottish giants following a successful loan stint.

“I am so pleased to complete my move to Celtic, and I really could not be happier,” Carter-Vickers said. “I have loved every minute of my time at Celtic so far, and I really wanted to be part of the club’s future.

“We have a fantastic group of players at the club, we have a really good spirit and atmosphere among us, and we all worked so hard together to deliver the league and League Cup success last season. I wanted to make sure I was part of this group going forward and working under a great manager, and now we all want to achieve more.”

Spurs hope that Carter-Vickers is the first of several players that they can offload on a permanent basis as they look to offset some transfers and get underperforming players on high salaries off their wage bill.

Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, Bryan Gil, and Tanguy Ndombele are some players whose future in north London could end this summer.
