Former star says ‘excellent’ 25-yr-old ‘would be tempted’ to join Tottenham

By Saikat -

Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.

The 25-year-old Japanese midfielder joined Celtic when Ange Postecoglou was in charge of the club, and it is no surprise that he is now being linked with a move to Tottenham following the Australian’s move to the London club.

The 57-year-old manager has taken over at the Premier League club and he is expected to raid his former club for players like Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi.

Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton believes that the 25-year-old Japanese star there could be tempted if Spurs come calling.

Hutton said to Football Insider: “There is no doubt he would be tempted. We are talking about a top-four, top-six team. Of course, he would be interested.

“That being said, I do not think that is the type of player Tottenham need. I think they need a more attacking, number-ten-type player like James Maddison.

“Hatate has been excellent I just do not think that is what they need at this moment in time.“

The Japanese midfielder has nine goals and 11 assists to his name across all competitions this season and he could prove to be a useful acquisition for Tottenham. He is well-versed in Postecoglou’s style of play, and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact.

Tottenham need to add creativity in the middle of the park and the Japanese international seems like the ideal option

Spurs have quality midfielders like Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at their disposal, but the two players are lacking in craft and goals. Someone like Hatatee would add a new dimension to the Tottenham midfield.

The opportunity to play in the Premier League will be an attractive option for the player and a move to Tottenham would be a major step up for him.
