The latest report from 90min states that former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has “turned down an initial approach” from Chelsea.
Despite spending almost 600 million pounds in two transfer windows under new owner Todd Boehly, Chelsea’s recent results have been poor, with only one win, four draws, and five losses since the beginning of the new year.
While Boehly is reportedly willing to give former Brighton manager Graham Potter time to rebuild, not all members of the Chelsea hierarchy share his patience and have significant concerns about the team’s current form.
According to the report, Pochettino was a serious consideration for the top-level positions, and the club made inquiries about the former PSG boss, but he is not interested in the job. It is also noted that Pochettino is open to returning to management but is waiting for the right opportunity.
Meanwhile, Tottenham themselves are being linked with a stunning return of Mauricio Pochettino. Antonio Conte’s contract ends at the end of the summer and reports suggest that the Italian will not be signing a new contract with a return to Juventus a possibility.
Pochettino was a highly successful manager during his time at Tottenham, turning the club into a consistent top-four side and leading them to a Premier League title charge in 2016/17, where they finished as runners-up.
He also guided Spurs to the Champions League final in 2018/19, ultimately losing to Liverpool. If Pochettino were to join Chelsea, it might not be well-received by Tottenham fans, who still hold him in high regard.
