Former Spurs man reckons he knows what Mourinho thinks he can do at Tottenham

The appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as the manager of Tottenham catapulted Spurs to new heights as a football team.

The Argentinean made them one of the top teams in England, and with the help of players like Harry Kane, they consistently reached the Champions League group stages.

However, they fired him last year and he left them without winning a trophy, something that critics still use to judge him.

He might not have won a trophy for the club, but he helped them to become a top team in England and Europe again, including reaching the final of the Champions League in 2019.

Spurs have replaced him with a man that has won the Champions League twice and has won three Premier League titles in Jose Mourinho.

Jermaine Jenas believes that Spurs made the right appointment and that Mourinho will take them to the next step that Pochettino couldn’t.

“We can’t forget what Poch did for Tottenham,” Jenas told BBC Sport.

“Because he made them Champions League regulars and took them to a whole new stratosphere in terms of their belief levels.

“Mourinho, though, has somehow looked at that blueprint and said ‘it is brilliant but I can make it better because I know the secret ingredient’. That secret ingredient is a desire to win.”
