I pretty sure everyone wishes Paul well, but this appears to be another bad decision.

If in 5-10 years we’re in a totalitarian state that in no way resembles the pre-covid world I will come back and admit to the naivety of my thinking – but I’m not buying that one. I don’t believe humanity is capable of something as joined up as a worldwide pandemic and subsequent response.
I do think the government toyed with something similar to that – a herd immunity strategy. Then it was factored in that natural immunity would be pretty limited and your working population would keep on getting sick again and again that it was abandoned. Even if only 1 in 300 of the working population died from Covid that would still be a bit of a morale buster for the British public, especially if you’re sat at home two weeks with flu symptoms wondering just great shape your immune system is in.
Plus as you say, they’d already failed to protect the vulnerable early on so that option had already gone to some extent due to incompetence.
Thanks, it’s been a strange year – just tried to remain positive and focus on getting ready to be a dad, we found out a bit late deep into the first lockdown. We’d been trying a while so I know some people think it’s selfish to have a child right now but it wasn’t really like that.
I’ll agree I don’t think this virus is the end of everything, I don’t even believe there’ll be much of a ‘new normal’ after this – people will go back to 99% the same lifestyle within 5 or 6 years (look at people booking flights for holidays today).
The media frustrate me a great deal – I think this country has largely struck the right balance between personal liberties and trying to limit the impact of Covid but the media has flip flopped between unhelpful extreme opinions for their own motives.

Condemning this population to possibly getting something more severe than the flu two or three times over 2 or more years with low intervention and no vaccine would still be a health crisis even discounting the deaths. Yes. Plenty of nurses, funeral home workers etc. I’ve had all manner of info. Some I wish I could say. Covid as cause of death is on certificates when people died of other things. PCR minipulation. That’s fairly standard and they get money to put covid on cause of deaths. We all get sick. In 2006 I had a brutal chest infection awful cough and flu, lasted over a month, I remember cos it was the world cup, in the end had to register with doctor to get antibiotics to get rid of it. If that was now I’d have got a test and would be told I had covid. Flu and influenza is next to gone now. The vax is rolled out at the end of flu season…..
I have declined it.
I’ve just become a parent so these measures have robbed a lot from me, it’s not a great thing not being able to mix when you want to introduce your baby to your loved ones. My wife won’t be able to get a vaccine until she stops breast feeding too, which means no passport out of the country so no holidays for another year or so. Can’t even register the baby with the council due to their backlog etc.
The measures in care homes stopped me from visiting or saying goodbye to my grandad in person before he passed (I visited him every week near enough before Covid).
I still maintain – the measures are justified, and the summer was very close to business as usual for the vast majority of people.
think we’re reached the stage as a civilisation we can’t just ‘take a 2.7% hit’ on the chin – but that’s just an opinion

As long as you’re not a denier who won’t get the jab either then that’s ok (otherwise I’d say you are close to a conspiracy theorist and not beiong very helpful to yourself or others) – I get where you’re coming from but think you’re viewing it all from a limited perspective.
Do you know anyone working with Covid patients? Have you had a relative confirmed to have died from it? Did any of your work colleagues fall badly sick at the start of the pandemic?

The suicides, the domestic abuse the lack of cancer diagnosis and treatment among other diseases neglected. Etc etc.
