Tottenham Hotspur finally saw the pitch after having their past three games postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak within the squad, coaching staff, and under-23 team.
Spurs welcomed Liverpool to north London, where the two parties played to a 2-2 draw. Harry Kane opened the scoring for Tottenham 13 minutes into the match, but for a former referee, Kane shouldn’t have seen the 77 minutes that the 28-year-old played.
Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett went on Twitter to state that Kane should’ve received a red card following his challenge on Liverpool defender Andy Robertson. Hackett called the tackle by Kane ‘reckless.’
“How can Harry Kane stay on the pitch after that reckless challenge that endangered the safety of an opponent. Excessive force. Serious Foul Play challenge red card-another refereeing error,” Hackett said.
Kane received a yellow card from referee Paul Tierney for the foul on Robertson. Furthermore, there’s some salt on the wound for Liverpool, considering that Robertson received a red card for his swipe on Tottenham full-back Emerson Royal later in the match.
Tottenham didn’t take advantage of the 13 minutes they played with the player advantage as Spurs earned a point in their return to the pitch.
He really is the new Shearer – has the refs in his pocket !
It was dangerous, but what I do not get is analysis saying, if, if Robertson foot was planted. The fact is there to see, he was bailing once Kane hit the ground trying to chip the ball over Harry head.
It was a red card and also it was a penalty against us. The footballing gods smiled on us.
