Former player suggests Tottenham should consider move for 35-year-old attacker

By Saikat -

Croatian international Ivan Perisic left Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer this summer.

He has now rejoined his boyhood club Hajduk Split on a free transfer. The 35-year-old was recently in action for Croatia in the European championships, and he put on an impressive display against Albania on Wednesday.

Former Tottenham winger Andros Townsend heaped praise on the winger for his performance in the European championships and suggested that Tottenham should look at bringing him back to the club.

Speaking to ITV, he suggested that Tottenham should find out whether the player’s agreement with Hajduk Split is airtight, and whether there is a possibility of luring him back to London.

“Oh my God, it’s sensational,” said Townsend. “What can you do? How can you defend a man who is both-footed like that? He has an incredible cross with both left and right foot. He has been a joy to watch.

“I would be asking is that pre-contract with Hajduk Split airtight? Has he got an out? That cross is always teasing defenders. He always seems to find a way to invade them.”

Perisic is certainly a quality player but Tottenham need to plan for the future. Going back for the 35-year-old winger would be extremely surprising. There is no doubt that Tottenham need more quality in the wide areas, and perhaps they should look to invest in a goalscoring winger this summer.

It will be interesting to see who they end up signing.

As for Perisic, he is in the twilight stages of his career and joining his boyhood club seems like a wise decision. The lesser intensity of the Croatian league will suit him at this stage of his career, and he would get to enjoy his football as well.
