Forget £65m release clause Tottenham can sign La Liga star for much less

Every day I check out the latest Tottenham news, I listen to podcasts and watch Youtube videos. I read the high brow stuff and the tabloid fodder, I do this because it is not just my job but because Tottenham is my deep passion.

Today was no different and I was struck by a headline from GivemeSport which proudly proclaimed “Spurs targeting £65m player”.

Now, GivemeSport is supposed to be an authority site, not your gutter press but it turns out on this occasion they decided to go in for a little bit of clickbait.

You see, they are not actually peddling falsehoods because Sevilla centre half Diego Carlos has a release clause of £65m, instead, they are playing a little bit of let’s mislead the public.

Because, if you read their article you soon come across a link to the original article from The Telegraph and within their article they make it absolutely clear that Sevilla expects more than £35m for Carlos.

Now, expecting more is one thing but expecting an extra £30m is a whole different matter.

Whatever “more” is, you can take it to the bank it is not £30m more.

Whether Spurs will try and sign Carlos for “more” than £35m is very debatable but what is certain is that a player being touted at £65m is basically available for a whole lot less.

Will Diego Carlos sign for Tottenham? probably not but then again if Spurs were to offload a few players including Tanguy Ndombele then anything is possible I suppose.
