Fabrizio Romano: Spurs close to completing £25.8M transfer

Tottenham Hotspur could be making its first sale of the summer, as winger Steven Bergwijn is reportedly on his way out of north London and heading back to the Netherlands.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bergwijn is ready to leave Spurs for Ajax after the Dutch champions settled on paying a €30 million (£25.8 million) transfer fee and up to another €2.5 million in add-ons for the winger.

Despite the 24-year-old flopping at Tottenham, the Premier League side was holding out for a €30 million bid, a fee similar to what they paid in 2020 when they brought Bergwijn from PSV.

It seemed the north London club wanted to recoup their initial investment and not take a financial loss, and it looks like they’re on the verge of doing so. The winger will reportedly be undergoing his medical on Wednesday to help finalize the deal.

Bergwijn wants a return to the Netherlands to solidify his spot on the national team and garner consistent minutes ahead of the FIFA World Cup later this year.
