Fabrizio Romano shares encouraging update on Tottenham star amid Real Madrid links

Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Tottenham defender Cristian Romero, who was linked with a move away in the summer.

The World Cup winner is one of the best players at the club and is considered a vital player for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

He played a key role last season, forming a strong partnership with Micky van de Ven at the back. His performances attracted interest from Real Madrid who were strongly linked with him over the summer. It was reported that Carlo Ancelotti personally wanted to sign him.

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed this with his latest update. He states that there were top clubs interested in him over the summer, but Tottenham were clear in their stance, i.e, Romero remains untouchable.

He also shares an encouraging update, confirming that there is no release clause in the player’s contract with Tottenham. Taking to X, he shared the following update:

“There’s NO €65m release clause into Cuti Romero’s contract at Spurs despite reports from Argentina. Tottenham considered him untouchable last summer despite interest from top clubs.”

This is a good news, as no club will be able to price him away without Tottenham’s willingness to sell.

Despite his current dip in form, Romero remains an integral part of the team Ange has built, and he will not want to lose a player of his quality and experience.

That said, Real Madrid are known for their willingness to splash the cash on the player they really want and if they do come back in the summer with a ridiculous offer, it will be interesting to see how Spurs will respond.
