Fabrizio Romano reports talks between Tottenham and Atalanta are at a standstill over Romero

Tottenham Hotspur wants to land a central defender that will anchor their backline for the foreseeable future. The London-based club has eyes various candidates, and Atalanta defender Cristian Romero is one that they’re trying to land this summer.

Italian football reporter Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the Premier League side’s pursuit of the 23-year-old. Tottenham is still in talks with Atalanta, but it’s at a standstill moment as they’re not paying €55-million price tag.

Romero is a priority for Tottenham; however, they’re only willing to pay between €40-million and €45-million for the Argentine defender. There’s at least a €10-million gap between what the English club wants to pay and the asking price Atalanta demands.

Furthermore, Romano adds that Romero and Tottenham have agreed to personal terms, but they have yet to agree on a transfer sum with the Serie A side.

The report also states that FC Barcelona has made no bid for Romero, explaining why Tottenham has yet to improve its offer and meet Atalanta’s asking price.
