Fabrizio Romano dashes Tottenham hopes with disappointing update on midfield target

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham’s interest in Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie for a potential summer move has taken an unexpected twist.

Earlier reports suggested that the North London club have successfully hijacked the deal and have moved quickly to agree on a fee for the American international.

The report from Football Insider claimed that the clubs have come to an agreement on a cut-price fee of around £15m after swift talks.

However, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has dismissed these speculations. Romano clarified that Spurs are not actively pursuing the versatile midfielder.

Sharing the update on X, the transfer expert said: “Tottenham are not working on deal to sign Weston McKennie.”

This is the second time Spurs have been reported to be close to signing a player before it being dismissed by a reputable source.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the club have submitted a £40m bid for Ivan Toney with personal terms already agreed.

However, both club insider Paul O’Keefe and Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge swiftly dismissed the reports, calling it untrue.

Transfer speculations are expected to continue, with Spurs expected to be one of the busy clubs this window. However, nothing concrete may happen until the end of the transfer window.
