Fabrizio Romano confirms 26-year-old will undergo a medical at Spurs ‘within the next 24 hours’

Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario will fly to London today ahead of his move to Tottenham.

That’s according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who added that a medical with Spurs is expected to take place within the next 24 hours.

He tweeted:

“New Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario will fly to England today from Spain in order to complete medical tests within the next 24 hours.

Documents are ready for five-year deal to the player and €19m to Empoli.”

Vicario earned a reputation for his impressive performances at Empoli last season.

Initially, Tottenham had been pursuing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya as their top choice, and Raya himself was keen on joining the North London club.

However, negotiations between the two clubs stalled due to a disagreement over the transfer fee. Brentford demanded around £40 million, while Tottenham were unwilling to exceed £30 million.

As a result, Tottenham decided to abandon their pursuit of Raya and swiftly shifted their focus to Vicario.

They wasted no time in securing the deal, having already agreed on personal terms with the goalkeeper and reaching an agreement with Empoli regarding the transfer fee.

With only the medical examination and contract signing remaining, Vicario is poised to become a Tottenham player.

The deal will see the highly rated Italian shot-stopper join Spurs for €19 million, signing a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2028.

He comes in as replacement of Tottenham captain and veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris who is expected to leave the club this summer. He only has one year left in his current contract and the club are keen on cashing in on him following a poor season from the Frenchman.
