Expert approves the pursuit of Atlético Madrid ace by Spurs as they battle Leeds for Bristol starlet

Tottenham Hotspur will be in the market for another center-back, and one target that recently surfaced is Atlético Madrid’s Mario Hermoso. The 26-year-old is under contract until 2024, so the Spanish club is in no hurry to sell the central defender.

Nonetheless, Spurs insider John Wenham applauds the reported interest in the Spain international as it fills the need for a left center-back that manager Antonio Conte wants to improve this summer.

Furthermore, Hermoso brings UEFA Champions League experience that would prove valuable for the north London side should they clinch a top-four finish this season.

“Hermoso is an interesting one because, for me, that is a top-level Champions League experienced player,” Wenham told Football Insider

“He is someone who is well versed in the dark arts of Diego Simeone as well as being left-sided, which is exactly what we need. Would I have him? Absolutely. He’s not top of my list, but if we could get him over the line I would be chuffed with that.”

Along with improving their central defense, Spurs are an improvement of their wing-backs, and the Mirror reports that Tottenham and Leeds United are scouting Bristol City’s £10million-rated starlet Alex Scott, who would fill different roles on the squad.

The report states that Scott has been playing wing-back recently but has also played as a creative midfielder or No.10. This season the 18-year-old has made 37 appearances for the Championship side scoring four goals and recording two assists.

Scott is under contract until 2025, but Bristol City could cash in on the teenager with a couple of Premier League clubs eyeing him.
