‘exactly what we want…’: Ange delivers positive injury update as versatile star nears a return

Ange Postecoglou has shared a positive injury update on Richarlison, with the Brazilian star nearing a return.

Tottenham have been on a sensational run in recent weeks. While they did have a poor start to the new season, the North London club are one on a roll with five wins in their last five outings across competitions. They are now gearing up to face Brighton in the Premier League.

Ahead of this fixture against the Seagulls, Ange Postecoglou has provided some positive news about Richarlison during his pre-match press conference. While the Brazilian international will not be available for the clash on Sunday, he is closing in on a return.

The Australian manager said via Sportsmole: “He’s going well.

“Hopefully post-international break we’ll get him involved in team training”.

After struggling to stay fit last season, Richarlison would have been hoping for an injury-free 2024/25 campaign. But, just two fixtures into the new season he picked up an injury and has missed their last seven fixtures. The good news is that he is back on the grass and Postecoglou believes he will be back training with the team after the upcoming international break.

Since the 27-year-old’s last outing for the Tottenham, they have added Dominic Solanke to their squad and Postecoglou is excited to have the two forwards available at his disposal post the break.

The former Celtic boss added: “I would love that, it’s exactly what we want.

“That was the plan at the start of the year and then you end up, second game of the season, neither of them is available.

“We’ve got a hell of a lot of games and we want to be competitive in all of them. I can’t wait to get Richy back available. When he played for us last year and was fit, he scored goals. To have him and Dom as our strikers – and Richy can play wide as well – can’t wait to get him back.

“His recent history over the last two or three years is that he hasn’t been able to sustain it, he’s broken down. What we’re trying to do this time around is do everything right so that when he comes back, he stays back. That’s the key with Richy and hopefully that is the case.”

While Solanke seems to be the preferred choice under Postecoglou, Richarlison will compete with the former Bournemouth ace for a place in the starting XI. The Brazilian can even feature on the flanks and the duo can be on the pitch together when needed.
