Ex-Tottenham defender Serge Aurier having discussions to join Spanish club

It’s been over a month since Tottenham Hotspur parted ways with right-back Serge Aurier after the two parties agreed to terminate the final year remaining on his contract. Since then, the 28-year-old has been without a club, but that could be changing soon.

According to Cadena SER’s Xavi Sidro, Aurier was in attendance at El Madrigal to take in the match between Villarreal and Real Betis. The Spanish reporter adds that manager Unai Emery confirmed at his press conference that there are discussions between Aurier and The Yellow Submarine.

Emery states that there have been conversations about adding the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham defender on a free transfer as the La Liga side balances domestic play and UEFA Champions League.

Despite Aurier being at the game, Emery also stated that nothing is imminent as discussions will likely continue heading into the week. The defender has experience playing in the Champions League with PSG and Spurs, so if the wages and contract length make sense, expect Aurier to play in La Liga.
